The Roman Vishniac Archive at International Center of Photography is currently being established through the generosity of Vishniac's daughter, Mara Vishniac Kohn. In 2007 Ms. Kohn donated her father's estate to ICP, entrusting us with the task and mission of establishing a major public archive and database of Vishniac's work. The gift includes tens of thousands of original vintage prints, negatives, contact sheets, audio recordings and moving film footage, as well as a lifetime of personal correspondence. The majority of Vishniac's work has never been printed nor published, and encompasses a much wider range of images, subjects, locations and time periods than has previously been thought; a primary task of the archive is to make this work available for research, in partnership with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in D.C. At present the holdings are being physically organized and catalogued; the archive is not yet open to the public.
