Today, most people remember the war as a series of terrible vignettes: Nick Ut's photo of the girl fleeing napalm, Ron Haberle's grisly images of the massacre at My Lai, or Eddie Adams' horrifying image of a streetside execution. How did the war look from the other side? Through the efforts of intrepid researchers Douglas Niven and Chris Riley, we are now able to see a different perspective on the ruinous decade-long conflict known to Americans as Vietnam, and to the Vietnamese as simply "the American War."
