Coney Island

Weegee made many photographs of Coney Island, and when they appeared in PM, it was almost as if summer had truly arrived: the first lost child, lifeguards performing rescue rehearsals, couples in the sand both day and night, and his ever-favorite crowd shots.
I had been waiting three hours to get a picture of the first official lost child of the new season when a man came over to the Park Department attendant with this boy and said, 'Lost child.' Pretty soon his wild-eyed mother came and took him away. The child was making such a rumpus, and the mother seemed so excited about it all, that I didn't want to bother them to ask their names and address." PM Story and Photo by Weegee
